Nagpur is an important city in the state of
Maharashtra. It is located on the banks of the River
Nag in the central part of India. One of the greenest
cities in India, Nagpur is known all over the world
for its oranges. The most important landmark of Nagpur
is the historic Sitabuldi fort, which is located atop
a hill at the centre of the city.
The region around Nagpur had a turbulent past as the
reins of this city frequently changed hands. However,
the origin of this multifaceted city can be traced to
the early 18th century. It is said that Bakht Buland,
who was a local ruler, laid the foundation of this
city. This city reached its glory under the reign of
the Bhosle dynasty.
Nagpur is a part of the tourist circuit that includes
places like Amravati, Wardha, Kanha, Khandala, and
Pench.

The Sitabuldi Fort is located in the centre of Nagpur.
It is built atop a hill, having steep slopes and is
protected by a moat. There is a war memorial within
this fort, which has been built in remembrance of the
soldiers who died during the battle between the
Marathas and the British. The fort is not open for
public viewing except on Republic Day and Independence
Day.
The Maharajbagh Zoo is an interesting place to visit
in Nagpur. The zoo is located near the banks of the
Nag River, which flows through the city. Even though
the zoo houses a limited number of species, it is
nevertheless a nice place to see, especially if you
are with kids.
If you have a liking for oranges, then Nagpur is the
right place to be in. You can buy as many oranges as
you want during the winters, when this fruit is
available in abundance in the markets of Nagpur. Apart
from oranges, you can also buy various products made
out of oranges like jam, jelly, marmalade, fruit
squash, etc., from Nagpur, which has a number of
food-processing units.
